Vanessa Branson and Robert Devereux both have extensive experience as hoteliers and have created a retreat that combines the luxury of a boutique hotel and the charm of a family holiday home.
The classic Scottish façade of Eilean Shona House conceals a wealth of entertaining and living space. The interiors are comfortable and quirky rather than traditional and formal. The house is heated by a solid wood boiler and a large wood burning stove, is insulated by its thick well built walls and, unlike many other Scottish country houses, there is always lashings of piping hot water.
The house has a large, very well equipped country style kitchen with three large pantries, a huge catering fridge, freezer and smaller day fridge, ice making machine, AGA and Smeg gas/electric cooker, super catering dish washer (wash and dry cycle 3 minutes), good quality knives, boards, dishes etc
The library has a full size billiard table, dartboard, and large selection of board games plus a well stocked range of books to refer to and read during your stay.
The drawing room is light and comfortable with an open fire, sofas, a seated alcove with magnificent views of the loch, a grand piano and a selection of works from emerging international artists.
The dining room walls were painted by the celebrated Glaswegian artist Fred Pollock. The table sits up to 20 people but can also have a leaf or two removed for smaller parties.
There are 11 bedrooms in total: 7 double bedrooms, 3 twin bedrooms, 1 bunk room with two bunks (sleeping 4). Each bedroom has its own character with beds and artwork of note. Serving these bedrooms there are 6 bathrooms and 1 shower room.
All the bed linen, towels and robes are of the finest quality Egyptian cotton. The bunk room, one of the doubles and one of the twins are on the top floor – these bedrooms are comfortable but more suited to staff and children.
Wifi internet access is available throughout most of the house.
Dogs are welcome (limit of 2) with a £50 cleaning supplement per dog.
A rib is used to transport you to the island on arrival and departure days. A Quad and Trailer will transport your luggage and provisions to your cottage then again on departure ( South Shore only by boat) and there is the opportunity to leave the island on a Wednesday for sightseeing or shopping. Journeys outside this can be negotiated but subject to charge.
