Eilean Shona nestles in the entrance to Loch Moidart on the West Coast of Scotland and there are several ways to get to here. There are daily flights to Glasgow on Easyjet from London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris. Lufthansa flies to Glasgow from Dusseldorf. From Glasgow you can rent a car and travel through the stunning Highland landscape.
As Eilean Shona is an island, the island postcode does not show a driving route on Google maps.
Please use the following post code for Google Maps and Sat Nav: Dorlin PH36 4LR
It's important to put 'Dorlin' in with the postcode to get directions down to the pier.
This post code takes you to the Dorlin Pier turn off.
From Glasgow follow signs for:
ERSKINE BRIDGE & LOCH LOMOND
LOCH LOMOND > CRIANLARICH
CRIANLARICH > GLENCOE
GLENCOE > ONICH
Once in Onich, 8 miles south of Fort William, take the Corran Ferry to Ardgou (please phone us from the Corran ferry o that we can meet you as you arrive).
As you come off the ferry turn left to Stontian and Salen. Go through Strontian and on to Salen. Go straight on at Salen to Acharacle. Again go through the village. As you leave Acharacle you go over a pretty humpback bridge over the River Shiel. Follow the road as it curves left. The road then curves to the right and at this point there is a turnoff to the left signposted 'Dorlin & Castle Tioram'. Take this road for 2.5 miles all the way to the Castle. Turn left into the private road. 200m on the right is a stone jetty and shelter. The boat will meet you there. Unload your bags at the jetty.
Please park your car back at the castle car park, which is just to the right of the bottom of the main road.
From Glasgow to Eilean Shona allow 3 to 3.5 hours.
You can travel on Scot Rail from London Euston either on the day or overnight service to Fort William.
From Fort William it is an hour taxi ride to the jetty on the mainland.
Just in case you want to leave Eilean Shona, included in the price of the house, on top of your transfers for your stay, is one ferry trip to the mainland. The boat will leave the pontoon at 9.00am on Wednesday to drop you off at the Jetty on the mainland. This will return to pick you up at 5pm.
If you require to leave the island outside of these times, please speak to Paul to arrange your travel. There will be a charge of £50.00 per trip one way for this additional service.
Why not hire a sleeper tour bus and arrive like rock stars, or charter a helicopter or sea plane.
Whatever mode of transport, once you arrive, you will realise the journey was more than worth it.
