The classic Scottish façade of Eilean Shona House, designed by the celebrated architect Robert Lorimer, conceals a wealth of entertaining and living space. The interiors are comfortable and quirky rather than traditional and formal and combine the luxury of a boutique hotel with the charm of a family home. The house sleeps up to 16 and comes with an excellent chef and an island host to guide you during your stay.
There are 9 bedrooms in total: 7 double bedrooms, and 2 twin bedrooms. One twin can be converted into another double. Each bedroom has its own character with furniture and artwork of note. Serving these bedrooms there are 6 bathrooms (3 ensuite) and 1 shower room. All the bed linen, towels and robes are of the finest quality Egyptian cotton. There is dedicated staff accommodation in three further bedrooms on a separate floor.
The house, although large, is snug being insulated by thick well-built walls and centrally heated by a solid wood boiler supplemented with four glowing open fires and, unlike many other Scottish country houses, there is always lashings of piping hot water.
Food, wine and whisky are an important part of the Eilean Shona experience and we pride ourselves in the exceptional cooks we have on hand. Sarah is there to discuss your preferences so each meal from breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner are memorable. The iconic dining room was painted by the Glaswegian artist Fred Pollock. The table comfortably sits up to 20 people but it can also have a leaf or two removed for smaller parties.
The large and very well-equipped country style kitchen has three pantries, a huge catering fridge, freezer and smaller day fridge, ice making machine, AGA and Smeg gas/electric cooker, super catering dish washer, good quality knives, boards, dishes etc.
The library has a full size billiard table, dartboard, and large selection of board games plus a well-stocked range of books to refer to and read during your stay. The drawing room is light and comfortable with an open fire, sofas, a seated alcove with magnificent views of the loch, a grand piano and a selection of works from emerging and established international artists.
This abundance of style and comfort, along with the nature of gathering on an island, makes Eilean Shona the perfect venue for family celebrations, Christmas and New Year parties, executive team building trips, well-being and creative retreats or just gatherings of friends. Visit for a weekend break or more and anchor yourselves back in a time when the stars shone bright in black skies and the only sound in the clear air was of rushing streams and bird song.
The house is available to rent for a minimum of three nights and comes fully catered to make your stay as luxurious and stress-free as possible. We have a number of great chefs working with us and we will match the right chef to suit your party and catering needs.
And of course well-behaved dogs are always welcome.
